Children In Need

BBC Radio Devon presenters, Matt Woodley, Danny Lawrence, Kevin Winser and Morwenna Hortop - AKA Pudsey's Buskers have taken Devon by storm!

They're raising money for the BBC Children in Need appeal by performing popular numbers from the last five decades in the county's main town and city centres.

BBC Devon's early show presenter Danny Lawrence is the group's leader and plays the keyboard, Judi's co-host, Kevin Winser, is the Jimi Hendrix of the group on guitar, travel presenter Morwenna Hortop is fiddling her way round Devon, whilst breakfast show frontman, Matt Woodley, parps on his trombone!

On Tuesday, the group were welcomed with open arms by shoppers in High Street, Barnstaple.

Although some chanted "don't give up the day job", the money poured into the collecting buckets as the buskers played popular Christmas songs alongside familiar favourites, Rock around the clock, Can't get you outta my head, and Ralph McTell's hit, Streets of Barnstaple!

BBC Devon presenter Ian Brass joined the gang along with Pudsey, and Michael Chequer presented his lunchtime phone-in from the North Devon town.

On Wednesday, in Torquay, hundreds of listeners turned out in Union Street to support the group which was joined by BBC Devon's Late Show presenter, Vic Morgan, on his harmonica. Despite a seagull leaving a deposit on Danny's keyboard and Kevin breaking two strings on his guitar, the show went on to be another great success!

Thursday night saw the official switch on of the Plymouth christmas lights and Pudsey's buskers entertained the masses in the Piazza in Armada Way whilst also featuring on the BBC big screen. Pudsey demonstrated his musical talent by playing the trombone along with the 1978 hit, YMCA!

Princesshay, Exeter was the venue on Pudsey's big day. Richard Green joined the buskers to present his afternoon show and donations hit a record high for the week bringing the final total raised to £2000.

The band have now put their instruments away for this year but talks are already underway for a comeback tour in 2009!
