Hallsands is an eerie place: what used to be a thriving fishing village now consists largely of chunks of walls. These structures used to be part of people's houses, until they were swept away by the sea in 1917. Unbelievably, no lives were lost - but a way of life was. The families who lived and worked in the village had to relocate, and a close-knit community was gone forever. The lost village of Hallsands, on the South Hams coast, is now closed to the public. A locked gate at the top of the path which leads down to the ruins acts as a barrier to the visitors who turn up to take a look at the place. BBC Devon was given access in order to film the ruins, as part of a special series of features to mark the 90th anniversary of the Hallsands disaster.
