Cub Reporters on the Prowl!

Pupils from Bemrose Community School thought a closer look at their local BBC station was in order as they honed their skills as junior journalists.

They were after the inside story: how is the news actually produced?.

The young investigators were having a practice day for School Report Day day itself, on 13th March 2008.

On that day they'll wrestle with local, national and even international stories to produce a full bulletin complete with its weather report.

Last year, during the national scheme's inaugural run, Bemrose pupils ambitiously worked in audio, video and on their website to present their bulletin, and they aim to do the same this time round.

The 13th will see journalistic muscles being flexed at Granville school in Swadlincote, too.

In fact the BBC hopes that ultimately every secondary school will take part in this annual day of national newsgathering, and has produced lesson plans and put journalists at the disposal of local schools to aid the enterprise.

The Corporation takes its responsibilities in helping hatch the next brood of baby broadcasters suitably seriously!
