Throughout the day, we marked the anniversary of John Lennon and Yoko Ono coming to Coventry to plant acorns in the grounds of Coventry Cathedral - all in the name of peace and art. You can read about the event in the History section of our website - or by clicking on the link below: ![]() The bench outside BBC Coventry & Warwickshire On the BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Breakfast Show, Liz Kershaw and Fran Daly went down to Coventry Market, looking for retro clothes and make-up. Throughout the day, we also played some great music from 1968 - including Status Quo, Marmalade, Tom Jones, Julie Discoll, Leapy Lee - oh, and The Beatles! White benchWe also borrowed a replica of the white bench, which John and Yoko placed around the acorns. This replica was used in the ceremony when Yoko returned to the city in 2005 to plant two Japanese oak trees in Unity Garden. Unfortunately, we couldn't fit the bench into our Open Centre (it was 2-inches too big and wouldn't fit through the door!), but we were lucky enough to have it outside the studios for a day. The BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Open Centre was also decorated in white balloons, photos - and even some Granny Smith apples! ![]() Apples in the Open Centre Interview with Yoko OnoThe highlight of the day was, without a doubt, Vic Minett's interview with Yoko Ono. They spoke about the day John and Yoko came to Coventry and, of course, the ceremony in 2005 when the artwork was completed. Yoko also explained the reasoning behind the planting of the acorns and what it represented.
