The line-up included bands which have also graced the mighty stages of Glastonbury. Blast reporters Matt and Sophie went along to find out more. The second year of Charlestown's Regatta Rocks turned out to be another fantastic end to the annual Regatta week. Organiser, Neil Butler was particularly impressed with the weather as the evening stayed completely dry for the first time in weeks! This local, live-music event was originally created as an alternative to the firework display held on the last Friday of Charlestown's Regatta week. 2 years ago this had to be stopped due to health and safety reasons but luckily a small team of dedicated individuals had other ideas up their sleeves! ![]() BackBeatSoundsystem Regatta Rocks drew inspiration from Charlestown's cliff-top music festival, Sea Fusion. This event did not go ahead in June as the team were busy making arrangements for Regatta Rocks however, their ambitions were driven by similar motives. The idea, to create a mini festival with a friendly atmosphere in an idyllic setting, with a strong focus on local bands and local people. After the success of the first Regatta Rocks last year the crowd doubled in size for this year's entertainment. Organisers worked tirelessly to gather bands and their efforts definitely paid off as the caliber of this years acts was outstanding. The opening act were local band Jailhouse, a 4-piece band from St. Austell. They took to the stage from 7-8 playing a variety of music from 1950's to contemporary, appealing to all ages and tastes. After a DJ interlude whilst the stage was set up the crowd eagerly anticipated the arrival of yet another local band, BackBeatSoundsystem. These guys were undoubtedly the highlight of the evening for the majority of the crowd and caused a surge towards the stage as dusk fell and the dub synths took over. They really wowed the crowd with a vibrant and lively performance of covers such as Marvin Gaye, Heard it Through the Grapevine and Dolly Parton, Nine to Five. As the music continued long into the night, the BBQ and bar tent bustled with satisfied party goers all eager for Regatta Rocks 2010.
