BlastYou are in: Cornwall > Blast > Rockin' in Redruth Rockin' in RedruthMatt Nicholas Gig-goers at Gas Lights in Redruth on Saturday 25 July were treated to a night of high-energy music courtesy of South-West alternative rockers 'Not List' and 'Rute'. BBC Cornwall's Blast reporter went along to rock with the best of them... ![]() Rute in Redruth The first to take to the stage were four-piece 'Rute', delivering a musical package from the heavier side of affairs with the group taking influence from bands such as 'Sepultura' and similar metal acts, whilst maintaining progressive elements usually found in other musical styles. The main attraction of the evening was 'Not List'; a young band who launched into their set with gusto, equipped with fuzz-laden guitars and a seemingly unlimited supply of energy as they leapt and convulsed around the stage. Despite being such a young band, elements of their music was a call to times past by harnessing the groove and aggressiveness of early 'Nirvana' and 'Sonic Youth' and juxtaposing it with the delicate ambience of more modern bands such as 'Explosions in the Sky'. ![]() Not List on stage Just some of the sonic experimentation that was embarked on throughout their set included swirling guitars, loops, delays and start-stop dynamics that got the crowd moving. Featuring the more unorthodox line-up of three guitarists, 'Not List' presented to the Redruth crowd a lengthy set of original songs complete with glorious feedback, pulsing bass and crashing percussion. This quintet made sure there was never a dull moment to be had throughout their performance. Gas Lights in Redruth also operate an open mic night every Wednesday that enables local artists and groups to showcase their skills to the public.
