Matt's Diary 3

Still reeling from reporting The Kooks at the Eden Project Matt has to fix his mind on the next event he and Sophie are going to cover; Leopallooza 2009, a massive music event taking place in north Cornwall. Read Matt's diary...

Having never before hearing of the Leopallooza event which takes place in Bude, North Cornwall (it is a huge success despite only in its fourth year) I am excited about taking photos, interviewing and the experience of reporting from a festival!

There is a great line up of bands from the South-West, such as NME recognised band Baddies, St Agnes based Auction for the Promise Club, singer-songwriter Sam Isaac and many more.

But back to the present, this week I had the opportunity to shadow Chris Young (late reporter at BBC Cornwall) as he went about his business. Chris is a seasoned professional who I learnt a great deal from about interviewing, as this is an area of which I have not had much experience. I am often as nervous as the person that is having the microphone in their face!

The experience that I gained from taking photos in the press pit at The Eden Project has given me confidence that I can do a good job at Leopallooza, as the photos that were taken throughout the evening were featured on the BBC Cornwall homepage!

Having interviewed one of the bands who are playing at the festival before (Auction for the Promise Club), we should be able to get one interview at least throughout the course of the festival!

It will be exciting and great experience to try and interview as many bands as possible and to get feedback from the staff and audience alike.

This will be my first outing to a festival as a reporter, and it will be interesting to see an event such as Leopallooza from a different viewpoint to that of the regular festival goer!

I am half expecting to be faced with the usual superhero costumes and huge novelty wigs as is usually seen at these events, but then again, what sort of a festival would it be without them!?

So armed with a camera, notepad and flash mic, I will try and fend off these supernatural musical revellers, but failing that, I’ll have to party with them! (Responsibly of course...)

Check back on to the Blast section next week to find out how Sophie and I got on!
