Leopallooza Looms

Get your raincoats and wellies at the ready, the Leopallooza Festival 2009 is set be a scorcher (even if the weather isn't!) We begin this year's countdown and find out more with BBC Cornwall's Blast reporter, Sophie Cox.

The Leopallooza Festival, if you haven't heard about it already, is now the South West's fastest growing non-corporate, live music event. Set in the depths of the Cornish wilderness and rumoured to attract around 1500 party-goers, Saturday 1st August (ie. this Saturday!) is promising to be the musical event of the year.

Almost four years old and having tripled in size since 2007 this festival has played host to some of the hottest bands in the Westcountry, as well as attracting bands on the brink of stardom from all over the UK. This year is no exception with the line-up including sensational acts such as 'Little Comets', 'Floors and Walls', 'Rosie and the Goldbug', 'Baddies' and 'Everything Everything' (to name a mere few!)

"No rain, no mud could belay the hoots. I faced a second year of it, unprepared and overwhelmed, while Leopallooza rocked."- Border Patrol, G02 Magazine, July 2008.

The centre-piece of this homegrown, house party in a field, is a car, which is loaded with wood and set on fire. It provides a spectacular glow over the entire site which is built, wherever possible, using reclaimed materials.

Leopallooza has its own enormous bar called The Flying Squirrel and eatery aptly named The Hungry Badger! The second stage is powered entirely by solar energy, and if you're as baffled about this as yours truly feel free to quiz expert Cai Wagget about it on the night!

On Saturday 1 August 2009 the site is open from 9.30am for free parking and free camping. The fun and games begin at 12pm and end at approximately 1am Sunday 2 August. There are several campsites, a backstage area and most importantly an ample smattering of portaloo.

"Leopallooza's a goodun..."- Zane Lowe, BBC Radio 1.
