Only a matter of days into their summer with the BBC webteam in Truro, and they've already covered the final Eden Session and attended a press conference with The Kooks. Here's Matt's diary. Wow, what a weekend! On Saturday Sophie and I had the opportunity to take photos for Ladyhawke and The Kooks at The Eden Project, oh and did I mention we managed to get time to INTERVIEW THEM!? After a rather erratic drive around St Austell, we got to The Eden Project at the time we were supposed to (which is something seeing as it was nearing rush hour) and found the press desk after nearly having my camera confiscated by security. ![]() Matt took pictures of The Kooks This was when we found that Ladyhawke had unfortunately pulled out of interviews, which was a shame. But they allowed both of us to interview The Kooks at the same time which was a consolation. After taking a minibus up to some cottages in The Eden Project (I had no idea the grounds went so far!) we arrived where The Kooks were preparing for the evening, and to say that I wasn't nervous would be a complete lie. Instead of individual interview time it turned out that it was going to be a press conference with the other reporters there, interviewing Luke, singer for The Kooks. As I'd never really been in this situation before I was quite apprehensive, but seeing as Sophie was with me as well it gave us double the chance of getting a word in edgeways! Now, here is a lesson learned from experience. Always make sure you have enough battery left in your equipment, otherwise it will run out ten minutes into the interview! But thanks to some teamwork and some high-speed battery changing we were back on track before we managed to squeeze in some questions for Luke. ![]() The Kooks Next up was the photography in the press pit, and I think it's fair to say that we both had a brilliant experience being closer than everyone else, and being able to take photos as well! With Sophie being allowed in for Ladyhawke and myself for The Kooks, it was surreal as you just seemed to forget that there are thousands of people behind you completely jealous of where you are. When our time in the pit was up we were escorted to an area higher up where we could continue to take pictures which was cool as you could get some really crazy effects with the stage lighting in the dark. As The Kooks' set drew to a close (after the obligatory encore) so did our evening as BBC Blast reporters at The Eden Project, what an evening!
