BlastYou are in: Cornwall > Blast > Sophie's Diary Week 1 ![]() Sophie's Diary Week 1Each week Blast reporter Sophie Cox will be keeping a diary of her time working on the BBC Cornwall website. Find out her thoughts, what went well, what went wrong, and what caused lots of laughs...Welcome to Sophie's Diary... After a few teething problems (with punctures and things!) my training in Bristol with the other BBC Blast Music Reporters 2009 was really successful. Arriving late at the first seminar made Matt and I quite nervous to say the least, but as soon as we got started we soon realised that there was nothing to worry about! ![]() Jumping for Joy! I thought that the two days were absolutely fantastic, it was great to join like-minded people and discuss things which we intended to achieve whilst on the eight week placement. We were given a variety of workshops designed to help and prepare us for what we might encounter whilst reporting. These included, a photography session with Martin Barber and an introduction to the types of equipment we may be required to use. I probably appreciated this more than most as I struggle with anything labelled remotely technological! One of my favourite workshops that we took part in was an interviewing session with Jackie Springer, a former BBC Music Journalist, The way in which she delivered her talk was inspiring and I think I learnt a lot from what she said. Matt and I almost missed our train home to Cornwall on the Friday which was hilarious! ![]() Ladyhawke is supporting The Kooks. My first day in Truro at Radio Cornwall was equally brilliant. (Despite having to get up at the crack of dawn and being thrown live on air literally as soon as I walked through the door!) I was really nervous about the entire affair the night before I was due to start but again my fear soon disappeared when I walked into the newsroom and no-one was horrible to me! I really enjoyed the friendly banter between the team that added to the atmosphere of a professional radio station. It was fascinating to watch the production team at work behind the scenes of the lunch-time "phone in" show, I was completely baffled by the technological side of course! (It looked very complicated!) During my first day it was also revealed that Matt and I had been given an amazing opportunity for the coming weekend. We are going to be reporting on The Kooks and Ladyhawke at the Eden Project on Saturday night!!! I'm so excited, Matt will be really fed up with me by the end of the night I'm sure! last updated: 16/07/2009 at 10:26 |
