The "Trelawny Challenge" was to have 20,000 people singing at the same time and each paying £1. On the evening of 9 November 2007 thousands of people gathered together to sing the Cornish anthem 'Trelawny' in tribute of 17th century Cornish hero Bishop Sir Jonathan to raise money for Children in Need. The event was supported by St Austell Brewery and took place in participating pubs up and down the county – the focal point for the challenge being the Jubilee Inn, based in Trelawny's home parish of Pelynt. BBC Radio Cornwall's Michael Taylor was at the Jubilee Inn, Pelynt, to listen to the singing - and get the reaction of people, including the presenter of BBC Evening South West Duncan Warren. Help playing audio/video At least 350 people crammed into the Jubilee Inn to join in the singing. Members of the public were led in song by members of local male voice choirs and were all asked to donate £1 each, with the money going to BBC Children in Need. Did you take part in the challenge? This challenge took place across the world with emails coming in to BBC Cornwall from the USA, Canada, Cyrus and Spain from people planning to join in. ![]() Jim Christophers from the Cornish Federation of Male Voice Choirs who came up with the tells us how the Pelynt Male Voice Choir got on, 'I don't think we could top this, although I did threaten that if we don't make 20,000 this year we'd come back again next year and make sure that we do." Jeremy Mitchell, Head of Marketing at St Austell Brewery explained that over 60 pubs with Male Voice Choirs across Cornwall signed up to the challenge, but that the majority of their pubs would have people singing along. So far more than £6,000 has been pledged.
