What is The Lion King Musical?
The Lion King is a stage musical based on Disney's 1994 animated film. The award-winning show brings the story to life with spectacular puppets, African-inspired costumes and masks, stunning music, and unforgettable performances.
What is puppetry and shadow puppetry?
The Lion King stage musical is famous for its incredible puppets and visual effects. But what are puppetry and shadow puppetry?
Puppetry is the art of bringing a puppet to life using movement. In The Lion King, many of the animals are created using hand crafted designed puppets worn or operated by performers. The actors are then transformed into magnificent animals like the red-billed hornbill Zazu or the main lion character Simba, as well as other giraffes, elephants, birds and lions.
Shadow puppetry is a type of storytelling that uses light and shadows to create moving scenes. In The Lion King, shadow puppetry helps captures the animals moving through the African savanna. You can watch how Shini gets on doing shadow puppetry in her challenge!
