Easy Halloween science experiment to try at home
Make a SPOOKtacular bubbling cauldron at home with Big Manny! This fun DIY Halloween science experiment uses a few everyday items to create a bubbling potion powered by the magic of science.
How to make a bubbling science experiment 🧪
Start by pouring equal amounts of vinegar and washing-up liquid into your cauldron, or whatever container you're using. If you have some food colouring, add a few drops to make your potion look extra spooky. Give everything a good stir.
Next, add some bicarbonate of soda and mix it in.
Watch what happens! Foamy bubbles will start fizzing up and overflowing from the cauldron, just like a magical potion that's gone a little bit wrong!
⚠️ Remember to wear old clothes and protect any surfaces before using food colouring, as it can stain! ⚠️

Why does baking soda and vinegar fizz?
Bicarbonate of soda is an alkali and vinegar an acid. When the two meet they cause a FAST chemical reaction releasing carbon dioxide.
The washing up liquid traps the carbon dioxide gas and this creates foamy bubbles!
