Living with The Beatles... behind the scenes with Hunter Davies

Listen in to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire on 96 & 95.7FM, DAB and online.

For 18 months, between 1967 and 1968, Times journalist and author Hunter Davies lived with The Beatles...

He partied with them; he went to work with them; and he was introduced to all their friends and families to put together what is still regarded as the ultimate Beatles biography.

With two Beatle deaths, and a number of infamous news stories on the remaining members of the band, Hunter has been sought after by journalists all over the world to tell the inside story behind the biography.

Recently, he decided to update the original book for the final time, and it was early this summer when the Eclectic Light Show's Mandy Morton sat down with him to talk about one of pop history's most astonishing commissions.

Many BBC Radio Cambridgeshire listeners will be aware of Mandy's continuing interest in The Beatles and her love of their music, and a conversation with the man who breathed the same air as John, Paul, George and Ringo was bound to be a unique and candid discussion.

In a two-part documentary, broadcast on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire during the Bank Holiday weekend, Hunter Davies talks about the death of The Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein; the impact that fame had on the band's family life and relationships; and gives a fascinating account of how the most famous musicians in the world wrote and recorded their music.
