Whether it was by telephone, online, or turning up in person, many people have been left ticketless and disappointed as the Cambridge Folk Festival looms on the horizon. While many have raised questions about the organisation of ticket distribution, it is obvious that the festival is still the apple in the eye of folk fans across the country. A medley of marvellous musicKicking off on the Thursday you can catch Nick Barraclough & The Burglars and Kris Drever, while the full day festivities begin on the Friday with headliners The Waterboys supported by Steve Earle and Under One Sky. Joan Baez takes centre stage on the Saturday along with Kate Rusby and Toots & The Maytals while the weekend is finished off in true folk style by Nanci Griffith, Ricky Skaggs and Toumani Diabate & Symmetric Orchestra. But the weekend isn't just about fast fingered folk legends and musical masters alike. There are plenty of showcases, workshops and youth activities to enable the audience to become the performer. On the Friday Steve Knightley gives a songwriting session, Saturday they'll be queuing up for Québécois music from Le Vent du Nord and on Sunday guitar guru Martin Simpson will be hitting all the right notes with his strumming workshop. Kids classes include sessions ranging from clog dancing to fiddle lessons and guitar accompaniment to piano accordion workshops.
