As Christmas draws near, churches across the Bristol and Bath area will be holding special services and Christmas concerts will be taking place.

Monday, 10 December

Colston Hall, Bristol. The Evening Post presents its Carol Concert. Starts at 6.30pm.

Wednesday, 12 December

BBC Radio Bristol Carol Service at Bristol Cathedral. The highlight of Radio Bristol's year is always the Christmas Celebration and this year it's being held at Bristol Cathedral. Come and join the presenters with special guests the Bath Silver Ring choir and the Salvation Army Band, plus international classical tenor Tim Pitman. Starts at 8pm. ALL TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT HAVE NOW BEEN ASSIGNED.

Thursday, 13 December

Bristol Cathedral. University Of the West of England Carol Service. Tickets are required. Starts at 7.30pm. 

Friday, 14 December

St George's, Great George Street, Clifton. Bristol Bach Choir presents A Ceremony of Carols, including a mix of carols interspersed with readings. Starts at 7.30

Saturday, 15 December

Colston Hall, Bristol. The Bournmouth Symphony Orchestra presents an evening of traditional Christmas music and verse, called Christmas Light Classics. Starts at 7.30pm.

Bath Abbey. Shoppers Carol Service. Weary shoppers are invited into the peace of the Abbey for short twenty minute services of traditional carols for all the family. Start at 1pm and 3pm.

Bath Abbey. Christmas Concert. Carols for Choir and audience with Bath Abbey Choir of Boys and Men and the Premier Brass Quintet. Tickets available from Bath Festivals Box Office. Starts 7pm.

Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, West Hill, Portishead, would like to welcome everyone in the Parish which include Pill, Easton in Gordano and surrounding villages to join them for their Christmas Services. Mass at 10am followed by confessions with a visiting Priest

St Mary's Shirehampton. Prayer Breakfast for all from 8am to 9.30am. Carol Singing, for Christian Aid outside the church at 10.30am.

Carol Service at the family Chapel on the Tyntesfield estate in North Somerset from 4.30pm - 5.30pm. Gates open 4pm. Tickets £10 - bring a torch (also 1 and 8 December)

Sunday, 16 December

Holy Trinity, Hotwells. Carol Service. A service of readings and traditional carols, with Bristol Brass Consort . Starts at 6.30pm.

St George's, Great George Street, Clifton. Christmas with the Polysteel Band. A selection of classic and modern Christmas favourites for all the family, presented by the Polysteel Band. Starts at 7.30pm.

Colston Hall, Bristol. The Salvation Army presents its 2007 Festival of Carols and Christmas Music. There are two performances. One at 2.30pm and one at 6pm.

Bath Abbey. Family Carol service. The Christmas story for young people, told with the help of a donkey. Children are invited to come dressed as shepherds, angels, wise men or little people of Bethlehem. Starts at 5.15pm. 

Emmanuel at Badminton ("a new church for people who don't go to church") It is Church of England but meets in Badminton School Hall on Sunday afternoons. Carol Service - Mulled wine, mince pies and traditional carols. Starts at 4pm.

St Vincent's Catholic Church, Southmead, Bristol. Advent Carols & Readings start at 4pm.

Monks Park School: Born in a barn, Christmas Puppet Show Extravaganza
organised by Ebenezer Church. Starts 10am.

Monday, 17 December

Colston Hall, Bristol. Bristol Choral Society presents Let's Celebrate, a concert with the added excitement of a world premiere - a piece for a children's choir and brass, specially commissioned by Bristol Choral Society from Karen Wimhurst. Starts at 7pm.

Tuesday, 18 December

Colston Hall, Bristol. Christmas with The Rat Pack, a special Christmas version of the hit show The Rat Pack, Live from Las Vegas. With the 15 piece 'Rat Pack' Big Band and full supporting company of singers and dancers singing classics like Let It Snow, White Christmas, Merry Little Christmas and Baby It's Cold Outside. Starts at 8pm.

The New Room, John Wesley's Chapel. Charles Wesley's 300th Birthday Carol Service at 1pm with coffee, mince pies and birthday cake afterwards.

Wednesday, 19 December

Colston Hall, Bristol. Christmas with The Rat Pack, a special Christmas version of the hit show The Rat Pack, Live from Las Vegas. The Bristol Royal Infirmary Chapel, Old Building, Lower Maudlin Street. Advent Mass and Christmas Carols at 3.00 pm. The Roman Catholic Chaplaincy Team at the United Bristol Healthcare Trust says everyone is most warmly welcome, especially anyone who has been in hospital this year.

Thursday, 20 December

St George's, Great George Street, Clifton. A concert by pianist Joanna MacGregor, performed by candlelight and without an interval. Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant Jesus, meditates on the mystery of the baby Jesus and the wonders of the universe. Starts at 8pm.

Colston Hall, Bristol. Jake & Elwood's Big Xmas Party! A Blues Brothers Show where you are invited to sing-a-long, laugh-a-long and let your body flip, flop and fly along. Starts at 7.30pm.

St James' Priory, Haymarket, Bristol. Exultate Singers present their Carols by Candlelight. Starts at 8pm.

Civil Service Club, Filton Avenue. Outdoor Christmas Carol Service from 6pm. Organised by Horfield and Lockleaze Churches Together.

The New Room, John Wesley's Chapel. Carol Service at 1pm with coffee and mince pies afterwards.

Civil Service Club, Filton Avenue (near junction with Muller Road), Horfield. Outdoor Christmas Carol Service. The gates will open at 5.30pm with the event starting at 6.00pm. Parking available. Bring seating if needed. Refreshments available at Civil Service Club. This event is being organised by Horfield and Lockleaze Churches Together, as part of the HOPE 08 initiative. This aims to see local churches of every denomination working together for the local community.

Friday, 21 December

St George's, Great George Street, Clifton. The Tallis Scholars return to this venue with a special Christmas programme, called Christmas Celebration. Starts at 7.30pm

Saturday, 22 December

Bath Abbey. Concert of Christmas Music including Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten, sung by candlelight, with the Bath Abbey Girls' Choir and Ruth Faber on harp. Tickets available from Bath Festivals Box Office. Starts at 6.30pm.

Clifton Cathedral. Children's Nativity Service with Carols. Starts at 3pm.

Bristol Cathedral. Carols for Christmas and Blessing of the Crib. Starts at 3.30pm.

Sunday, 23 December

Bristol Cathedral. Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. Starts at 3.30pm.

St George's, Great George Street, Clifton. The Emerald Ensemble present their Children's Christmas Carnival, a fun-filled Christmas concert where children get the chance to sing, clap and play instruments with the Ensemble. Starts at 3pm.

St George's, Great George Street, Clifton. The Emerald Ensemble are joined by Bristol's chamber choir the Exultate Singers for a Christmas Spectacular. Start at 7.45pm.

Carols by Candlelight - a beautiful evening of carols, music and candles. 6.30pm Church of the Nazarene, Broadwalk, Knowle.

Holy Trinity Parish Church, Westbury-on-Trym. Traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols sung by the Parish Church Choirs at 6pm.

Monday, 24 December

Holy Trinity, Hotwells. Nativity Service. An all-age service, particularly suitable for children. Starts at 4.30pm.

 Holy Trinity, Hotwells. Midnight Communion. The traditional late-night service (ends about 12.15am) to welcome Christmas Day. Starts at 11.15pm

Bristol Cathedral. Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. Starts at 3.30pm. Midnight Eucharist. Starts at 11.30pm.

Clifton Cathedral. Confessions starts at 11.15am. Carol Service to prepare for Midnight Mass starts at 11pm. Mass of Midnight celebrated with Bishop Dean starts at 11.30pm.

Bath Abbey. Carol Praise, traditional carols for all ages, starts at 4pm. Festival of Lessons and Carols, led by the Abbey Choir of Boys and Men. Tickets from the Abbey shop or Abbey Office from December 3. Starts at 7pm. First Communion of Christmas, led by the Bath Abbey Girls' Choir starts at 11.15pm.

St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, Filton, Bristol. Family Mass starts at 6pm. Carols start at 11.30pm. Midnight Mass starts at 12 Midnight.

Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, West Hill, Portishead, would like to welcome everyone in the Parish which include Pill, Easton in Gordano and surrounding villages to join them for their Christmas Services. At 6.00pm there is Carols and Blessing of Crib followed by Mass at 6.30pm. To accommodate the large numbers, this will be at The United Reformed Church, Cabstand, and is particularly for families with young children. At 11.00pm there is Carols and Blessing of Crib followed by Midnight Mass starting at 11.30pm. After the mass there will be refreshments in the Parish Hall

St Augustine's, Downend, Bristol. Midnight Mass starts at midnight.

St Bonaventure's RC Church, Bishopston, Bristol. Family Nativity Service starts at 4pm.
 Vigil Mass of Christmas starts at 7pm. Midnight Mass starts at 11.30pm.

St Mary's Shirehampton. Crib Service starts at 4pm. Children are invited to come dressed as a person or animal from the nativity story. A short service for all the family to share. Midnight Holy Communion for Christmas starts at 11.30pm.

St Vincent's Catholic Church, Southmead, Bristol. Children's Mass is at 4pm, Christmas Carols are at 11pm and the First Mass of Christmas starts at 11.30pm.

Coffee and mince pies 11:15pm. Midnight - Midnight service by candlelight. Church of the Nazarene, Broadwalk, Knowle.

St Antony's Church Henbury. Mass starts at 9.30am. Confessions are from 11am to 12 noon. Christmas Family Mass starts at 5pm, with Christmas Mass and Blessing of the Crib at 9pm.

Holy Trinity Parish Church, Westbury-on-Trym. Children's service of carols around the crib 4pm. Midnight Mass 11.30pm.

Tuesday, 25 December

Holy Trinity, Hotwells. Christmas Morning Worship. A service suitable for all ages. Starts at 10am.

Bristol Cathedral - Matins starts at 7.40am. Holy Communion starts at 8am. Festival Eucharist starts at 10am. Evening Prayer starts at 3.30pm.

Clifton Cathedral. Dawn Mass of Christmas starts at 8am. Family Mass with Children's Nativity starts at 9.30am. Solemn Mass celebrated with Bishop Dean starts at 11am.

Bath Abbey. Holy Communion starts at 8am. Family Communion starts at 9.15. Sung Eucharist led by the Abbey Choir of Girls and Men starts at 11am.
