House rules

All of our bloggers are keen to hear your views, so comments will be moderated 24 hours per day seven days per week (0900-1900 for the Sport Editor's blog).

Please keep your comments clean. If they fail our house rules (listed below), they will be removed.

And do try to keep your comments relevant and below 200 words. We may fail posts that are too long and also reject off-topic comments because we want to keep this blog focused. Readers looking for broader discussions on sport should visit our 606 pages.

If you see a post that is inappropriate, alert us by using the "complain about this comment" link and we will act accordingly.

Please note that this button should not be used to simply disagree with a commenter. It is there to alert the moderators to a post you feel breaks the house rules in some way.

You should also be aware of our privacy policy.

And BBC Sport Interactive's general FAQs.

For formal complaints you should go to the BBC's official complaints website.

Blog basics

For the uninitiated, blogs (or weblogs) work like this:

The most recent posts appear at the top of the page. And at the bottom of every entry:

• "Permalink" allows you to bookmark a particular post, or to send it by e-mail to a friend

• "Comments" invite you to offer your reaction to that entry, or read those of others

Comments are what set a blog apart from a traditional column because they create an immediate dialogue between the audience and author.

• "Bookmark with.." allows you to submit a post to your favourite community news-aggregation site, such as Digg, which ranks stories and links via a user-based ranking system.

• On the right-hand side of the blog are links to other related blogs. If you wish to be considered for inclusion, please email us here including a link.

• You can also use an RSS feed of this blog. Here's the help page.

House Rules

We reserve the right to fail messages which:

• Are considered likely to provoke, attack or offend others

• Are racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit, abusive or otherwise objectionable

• Contain swear words or other language likely to offend

• Break the law or condone or encourage unlawful activity. This includes breach of copyright, defamation and contempt of court.

• Advertise products or services for profit

• Are seen to impersonate someone else

• Repeatedly post the same or similar messages ('spam')

• Are unrelated to the topic

• Include contact details such as telephone numbers and postal or email addresses

• Are written in anything other than English - Welsh and Gaelic may be used where marked

• Contain links to other websites which break our Editorial Guidelines

• Describe or encourage activities which could endanger the safety or well-being of others

We may also close comments on a post if we think the discussion has become irrelevant or out of date.

We want to keep our blog as focused as possible. For this reason, messages not relevant to the post may be rejected.

Repeatedly posting personal or offensive comments about individual members of the public or people who work for the BBC may be considered harassment. We reserve the right to remove such messages and take action against those responsible.

Blog upgrade explained

We have just put through some significant upgrades to our blog system. The good news is that they should make life much easier for you. We know there have been publishing delays in the past and these should be eased.

The biggest change you will notice is that you now have to register in order to make a comment. You can do so here or by following the link below this post.

Registration brings the BBC blog network into line with other interactive platforms on the BBC like 606 and Have Your Say and will enable us to manage your comments better.

It will make it easier for you to publish a response to one of our blogs quickly because we are hopeful that spam - which has brought our blog system to its knees in the past - should now be much more manageable.

Expect other improvements associated with this upgrade later in the year.

Content wise, there should be no change at all. We will continue to give you the chance to comment on the big issues around sport and look out for our new Olympics and Euro 2008 blogs, which will be launching soon.

Happy blogging. We look forward to hearing from you.

Weekend feedback

Another super busy sporting weekend and plenty of interesting feedback from you.

The Rugby World Cup kicked into gear on Saturday and Sunday with England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales picking up wins. For those disappointed that the tournament is not on BBC TV, rest assured we are disappointed too, but bidding for sporting rights is a complex and competitive process and ITV remains the UK broadcaster of this event for the time being.

To compensate, we have really ramped up our radio and online coverage. As well as the extensive match coverage, many of you are enjoying the fans-eye view of our roving bloggers Tom and Ben, 5live are producing a regular podcast and then there's Dropclick, our interactive rugby knowledge game.

Some viewers in Scotland were confused that the entire England v Israel match was shown north of the border, while Scotland v Lithuania was shown only as highlights.

This has to do with live rights again and Sky had those for the Scotland game. As to why the England match was shown, BBC Scotland (like BBC Wales and Northern Ireland) are free to opt out of network programmes and do so regularly as you can see from looking at their schedules.

On Saturday, BBC One Scotland opted out at 2300 to bring highlights of Scotland v Lithuania to their audience. But they chose to stay with the network between 1630 and 1905 for the live coverage of England v Israel.

The Walker Cup golf coverage on Saturday cut out just before the conclusion on the 18th green - understandably upsetting those who had been following it all afternoon.

Interactive TV Editor Matt Millington explains: "Play at the Walker Cup had been scheduled to finish by 6pm, which would have allowed BBC Two viewers to see the end of play. However, there was a considerable overrun because of slow play.

"BBC Two was able to continue showing live golf until 6.10pm, when interactive coverage took over on satellite and cable, although not on Freeview where the interactive streams were already in use.

"Unfortunately, although we managed to extend the satellite link until 6.30pm we were unable to go past this time as the link had been pre-booked by another TV broadcaster, so we had to leave play as players approached the 18th green."

The US Open tennis, meanwhile, was not on BBC TV.

Head of TV Sport Editorial Philip Bernie shed some light on the situation for those who missed Roger Federer's 12th Grand Slam win.

"The BBC does in fact carry extensive coverage of the US Open on Five Live and Five Live Sports Extra - both the finals were live this weekend on Five Live," he said.

"On TV, Sky currently have the rights to the US Open; but the BBC does have TV rights to the other three Grand Slams - the Australian and French Opens and of course Wimbledon, and extensive coverage of all three events from the centrepiece of our TV commitment to tennis."

About Alex Trickett

After six years as a BBC Sport journalist, I'm now a senior content producer, helping to run and evolve many of the interactive things we do. This means overseeing established areas like our blogs, 606, votes and BBC Sport feedback.

But it also means trying out new things with cutting edge websites like Facebook, Flickr and YouTube.

I'm well aware that our office is not the sole domain for bright ideas though. So your thoughts, comments and questions are always welcome.

A born and bred Londoner, my sporting allegiances obviously lie in Liverpool (FC), New York (Yankees) and Louisiana (Tigers) and I'm a big boxing fan.

I'm also currently obsessed with the Amazon (rainforest not online shop), pan fried scallops and Scrabulous.
