(;_;)('-')("_^)(¬_¬) ('_^)_(*_*)("_")('-')("_^)(¬_¬)(;_;)...So, in other words , as i said earlier, i resigned from my position as supervisor because you learners are hopelessly obstinate. And frankly i think it's one of the best way to learn! I'm just wondering how the BBC Learning English staffs try to cope and deal with such students; They may go to a lot of trouble for all this work! You know what i think they do deserve a big hand! I think we are not the winner, but THEY are the winner. So many thanks to them!
So dear friends all we have to do is to " really looking forward" to our next blogger! I wonder where he/she is from. Do you want to play? Okay let's play!

So ladies and gentlemen the topic of today is to guess the country our October blogger is from ( oh dear! is this sentence correct ?)

And please don't change the topic, please please this is my last entry! Please! (; ;)

And of course i'll be the first to have a guess! The next blogger is from...haha..from... oh my god that's terrible. You know what lovely learners, you can change the topic.

Bye !

"Appraisals "

Hello lovely English learners! I'm not sure, haha, but i think it's high time we said goodbye to September. I really need your help! I tried to explain to him that he had last enough, and that we really need to jump on October. But he still doesn't listen to me!

Believe me dear friend i told him! I told him that i've got a lot on this month.
I confessed it was an " up and up" month for me:

-	I met a really nice family in my " learning English trip" to Bamenda (Cameroon). I found out in them my model of life.
-	I have been enjoying learning English on BBC ( TV, Radio, Web) 24h/24, everyday. (Obviously again i exaggerate about 24/24!)
-	I've grown. How? Dunno. But i really feel myself more matured! Yes i do.
-	I've gain much fluency in English. How? Guess how.
-	I didn't laugh as i did in August, but i was happier in September.
-	I'm not sad at this end of this month as i used to be, when it comes to packing back to Senegal!

Do you realise all the good things happened to me that i told him? But he didn't understand! May be my English was too good, too posh?! I thing he must get down on learning English!

So lovely guys, try to explain to him that he has to leave! But don't forget, use simple words, it seems as if he doesn't understand English. Try to tell him that your month was wonderful ( i do hope it was.)
And of course! Don't change the topic! It's an emergency!! Haven't you seen that there are no smileys!!!!!

Gardening..

Today i'm happy to talk about my garden. Obviously i'm not the one who started sowing the seeds of flowers and trees!! But at least i try to take care as much as possible when i come back home for holidays.

Okay, let's say first, it is hard work, especially on August, September, because of the endless rainy days. So, trimming hedges and grasses is like a waste of time, the plants will soon grow up the next day. [ yes i know i exaggerate but it is more or less that. ] No wonder that my sisters are always running away at the " gardening time", i mean every days at 7 or 8 am.
So we start by mowing the lawn, as you can see on the picture below. Unfortunately this morning, we were only two of us , so we did all the chore!

Secondly, we remove the grass between the.... hemmm... how do we call that.. ( SOS teacher !!!!) anyway, we remove the grass as you can see on the picture.

Then, we trim the hedges...

As i mentioned early, no need to water the plants, as it's raining almost every day.
that's my home's thriving garden, even if we take care or not. I'm very hardworking! i'm the one who has done almost all the slog this morning! My cousin Lydia ( with the brown dress) hasn't been very efficient. but i least the work was sufficient... for today! Another hardwork tomorrow..(`,`)

Farming

Working land and prepare soil for land are the principal activities run by most of the population, especially here in the western province.

In every house, you are very likely to find a small land where are growing tomatoes, yams, potatoes, beans...etc
Many farmers may either sell their harvest, or use it as personal provisions.

About farming, i find very interesting the activity itself, as a very physical exercise. I say it because these holidays i spent some time in the north-west province where i was working in a pharmacy, and there, every Tuesday and Friday, diabetes patients used to come for a check up. One of the advice they were given is the physical activity. I thought immediately that it would be very unlikely that a man living in a remote area think of practising some exercises to keep his body fit and healthy.
And i was very happy to hear the clinical pharmacist say to the patient that he must keep on working in the farm! Yes i know it sounds very banal, but, strange thought it may appear, i was very joyful about that! Because if we think about how important the physical activity is in that pathology and not only there, but so is in general for a healthy life, we must be HapPY about!
About farming I also find fabulous the way how some people don’t bother about what they are going to eat, as there is behind their house a large farm full of “food” !
I like what we feel: When after some laborious months of working hard the land, sowing seeds for crops, the smile on your face when holding and looking at your harvests is simply wonderful.
Have you ever enjoyed using anything you made by hand, or anything you sowed yourself?
We can have it everywhere if we want to turn into a sort of philosophy: We can maybe think the simple meal we cook is a real achievement! We can be proud of our garden, we can be so delighted when we look at the shiny car we washed ourselves with our teN fInGeRS !!! We can also feel so joyful after polishing the whole house, we can be proud of our decoration, we can even feel so ecstatic when seeing how beautiful and perfect is our child! Or it’s unsayable how happy and satisfied you are, when you succeed in making your husband give up smoking or drug, and turn him into the world best husband and dad!
And finaly, i like the kind of misery that comes out when looking at people working in the farm, which is rather a cold feeling of autosuffisance and dependence, notice how rudimentary the tools are, we can even say we work the soil with our hands, our ten fingers (In some area of course) and dealing with climate change, according to agriculture, well, ....
This last paragraph i know is completely incoherent! I think it’s rather emotional than disjointed.
(‘.’) (~.~) (*_*) (^_^)

Which group?

Hello! As I can see, you all have almost asked the same questions.

This picture below, as you can see, is a mask, which is worn particularly in certain ceremonies. These ceremonies could be held in case of death, or some events related to the kingdom. What happens actually there is that the people who are wearing these masks are dancing, doing some expressive gestures that inquire quite something of “experience” to be able to understand...

I mean by “experience” the fact that a person can be used to “deal” with traditional chiefs, and traditional customs, where he learns some anecdotes and some “ways to live or to do thing”, so that he become used and skilled about all traditional facts there...
As a matter of fact, those people who are dancing during the ceremony are in some culture not supposed to be seen by the assembly (‘,’) why? Well I’m not sure i could be able to answer accurately. I used to ask, they told me it is tradition, and it could be some of the masquerades that form part of religious ceremonies enacted to contact with spirits and ancestors.

About the witchery...it’s difficult to make a point and demonstrate how real it is, but with what i heard, i don’t know... first i make a point that here there are many of what we call traditional practiser who use the “ nature” to solve people’s problems. You can thoroughly understand that from the nature we get plants, animals, energy (water-fire-wind...), human beings, and more...
If you ask me whether they efficiently do it, I’ll be at a loss, because if i remember everything that happened in my life, I’ve never tried it. (0.0)
Furthermore, when i say “solve people’s problems” you may straighly guess that solving somebody’s problem may include causing a problem to someone else. So, for example according to them, killing an albino child may appear as an important step to get over a challenging situation that made a person “consulting” that traditional practiser who is actually a “sorcerer”. Yes i know that’s horrible. But it’s a fact.
And about me, well that’s a bit funny. I’m not that “ educated” , i’m just an innocent happy baobab who is learning pharmacy in Senegal, after passing in Cameroon the exam that is a prerequisite for university entrance. But to be honest, i wish i took a cooking course. I want to be a chief!
As all holidays, i’m here in Cameroon, and i must confess that sometimes i feel like a fish out water here; it’s incredible how much people can be different. But as you asked me which group i belong to, i’ll say none of them. Yes none of them. Because i’m hardly considering people on their culture or on where they are from. I think I’m more focus on what they have in their heart. Are they any good?
So yes that’s my interest in any person. Tell me bloggers, am i not wonderful?!

What about you? Which group are you belong to? I do hope you will not forget to answer it! ( don’t bother Natanael, i’m not talking to you, i’m pointing Nastya, Elisa, Beatriz, Svetlana, Marina, Rihana, Ashish, Pary, Elisabeth...i cannot list everyone...i’ m afraid i can’t (^_^) Any person who will read this entry is “dearly expected” to answer it, although they should first have a look on the previous entry. I know i’m too demanding, but don’t worry September is almost finished (*_^) !!!

Culture

Here in Cameroon, there are a wide variety of culture and language as well, depending on the region. So each point of the country has its own ways and beliefs.

As my parents are from different regions, I’ve got the culture from the center province ( Yaounde) and the one from the west province (Bafoussam). The people from the western Cameroon are called « Bamilekes », a very typical group, which the culture is strongly based on a system of kingdom, with a firm attach to the ancestors, which is less emphasize in the center province’s culture.

Believe it or not dear friends, the witchery phenomenon is widely spread as well. it’s no longer as uncommon as it used to be. You may have heard some anecdotic stories about albino children’s murders, which are far from being a joke. As far is Cameroon is concerned, you can meet on the road a very traditional person, traditional in the way he is dressed, and in the way he thinks or does think. the word « traditional » here ,may be understood as « really cultural » , or may be « rudimentary », depending on your approach on the globalization. In the other hand, you can meet someone different, who looks and thinks in a quite strange modern way, trying to « run away » from where he comes from, from his culture. And at last you can come across someone very modern, but remaining in a certain way, where he is from. So the one firmly rooted will hardly try to get to know people from different culture, as his own seems to be the core of his life. The one who is uproot will adopt another culture, and many at the same time, and will end up in a sort of « loss » as to know how to keep and maintain his beliefs, especially if he has not succeed in making himself accepted by the people with the culture he has opted for. The last one will benefit from the differences he will get from the other culture. He will also feel free and eager to share his culture with the others. Well friend, this is a view, which may not be very expressive, or significant, but is still a part of the long-detailed approach on the cultural polemic in Africa.

p.s. There are no smileys in this entry. I don’t know why. Let me just put one ( ¨ ; ¨ )

no title (*_^)

Well ladies and gentlemen, this is the supervisor ( normally at this point, you are supposed to clap your hands for me! (*_*) ).

Honestly I really enjoyed reading about your wishes it's very funny! be everywhere at a same time or be Eros, or like the sound of waterfalls... it's simply G-R-E-A-T !!!

Let me just congratulate: Nastya, Elisa, Beatriz, Marina, Elisabeth, Pary, Aliozturk, Ashish, Svetlana,Danny and Rose araujo for their answers.

But I can't forget to congratulate Natanael too, for his ability of really talk about everything except what is asked! Well done man! impressive! Also to you Liangxiaomin!

2Nastya: A violent Mountain! Impressive. And to be everywhere at the same time? Well I like it too, but why being everywhere? you sounds like a bit curious (^_*).
2Elisa: Have you noticed how spiritual you are? you like the sadness of your tree, you're talking to your pet, and ...EROS ! Wonderful! You remind me of my sister: Her name is Lisa, and she is talking to her bear and doll and just let me tell you that THEY UNDERSTAND !! (that's what she used to tell me) and I respect that Elisa, it's not stupid at all, it's a style of life.
Oh I forgot! I went to that dictionary dear friend! I did it! look (*,*)
wil·low [wíllō]
(plural wil·lows)
noun
1. tree with long flexible branches: a tree or bush with long flexible branches, narrow leaves, and catkins containing small flowers without petals.
Some species are valued for their wood, twigs, and tanbark.

Genus: Salix

2Beatriz: It's just wonderful the Baobab, for sure it is. I don't know what to say YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED in having a supernatural..(*,*)...power?! Well..okay. Best is the best word. Yes it is!
2Pocahontas: Quietness of the mountain and sound of the waterfalls. I like the contrast...it's incredible how much I can learn from you! As I told Elisa it's very spiritual...! So subtle and refine... A world of good!
Oh dear you remind me « Both » ! yes definitely I hate this word! (^,^)
And by the way, the broken heart seems not to really care about how old or how young you are (^-^). But it's sad (*,*) but don't bother dear friend I don't care, I'm a super happy baobab (*_*)!!!!!!!
2Elisabeth: it's very funny! Convince narrow-minded people! Yes but I you sure you need a « supernatural power » to do that? (*,*) I'm sure if you keep on struggling, and you really care about it, you'll be able. Don't trust anything thing I've just said; it's just a part of a song that I've paraphrased. I don't believe it. I do wish you could have that power of convincing that people. I do. (*_*)
2Pary: Pary I love your country! and I know I'll get there one day! We do have here..no not here I don't know whether there is one here in Cameroon, but in Senegal, each year I attend the « Iranian festival » which is held once a year and where I always pay trough my nose some wonderful stuffs for home decoration.
2Aliozturk: happy to meet you! you sound « wise » accordind to the comment you post. Well actually (woo...Marina'd be happy! ACtuaLLy..acTUaLly..), reading in everybody's mind as you said, is not really the perfect thing to get. I do agree with you, but, at this time, at this tough moment I do need it. Thank you for approach.. What do you like BEST on « comprehensible « ? the word « itself » or what it means? Stay around..
2Ashish: C-O-S-T-S. look, that's not possible! I may injured my tongue! I'll say « costs » like C-O-SS. ( I hope no English teacher will read this comment! shshshsh..it's a secret! Learning English is not that easy (^_*) ) I like your view on gender.. Well, okay. Many Thanks!
2Svetlana: Man from Mars and woman from Venus; that's nice! how come I didn't know that! wellll....(*, *) that's interesting to travel through time! Do you miss a particular moments in your life or do you want to know what will happen to you? it sounds a bit dangerous isn't? I really like the way you like English! I wonder what native speaker think or feel when they see how much people consider their language as a melody! Do stay around svetlana!
2Danny: Very very happy to read that you are happy of your gender (irony! I don't have the smiley to express it! ) what a very meaningful meeting! I amazed I don't know what you say (*_*)! I really enjoy reading about you bloggers here you are so amazing and incredible! My sister wants to fly because she doesn't like to be stuck on traffic, that's what she told me...Yes I agree with you it's astonishing!
2Liangxiaomin: I really don't know what to say, which name? the one with Chinese symbols? I'm afraid no, but my sister does! she is really keen on Japanese Cartoon and she took a course in Mandarin. She will help me I'm sure. (^_^)
2Natanael YOU! what do you want me to say? you win! At least thank to you we found out Nastya is Anastacia. (*_*) . And you have made Elisa, pary, and Svetlana talking too much! You are the winner man! you are!
2Rose araujo: Thanks! i am very happy that many people do like the baobab tree!!! i also like the way you don't want to be a man! well, that's a different approach. thanks to share with us! (^_^)

well guys that's the longuest time i spent on the computer! i do deserve a big hand !!

No tittle!

hello everybody!
well i just want each person who will read this entry to do as i'm going to do as follow:

- My name is Dominique, i'm unluckily a "female gender" but in fact i wish i could be a man because i would not be the one with an endlessly broken heart.

- Between the fauna and the flora, i prefer the flora and i wish i was a "baobab". Do you know about the baobab dear friends? well it is a tree. Amazing isn'it? (^.^)

-My favorite English word is: " think " i don't know why, maybe because i went to a lot of trouble to get through the pronunciation of the " THink " . And obviously i hate the word " through" it's terrible. i also hate the word " peculiar ". it sounds strange (",")

-if i could have a power, i wish i could read in everybody's mind. hi! it's funny i asked my sister about that and she told me she would like to fly.

Okay i know it is a very stupid entry today, but at least it will be fun reading about what we wish we could be or we wish we could have.

i really really looking forwad to your wishes! Don't change the topic!! ( i know you know who i'm talking to, if you had a look on the previous topics) (^_^)(^_^)(^_^)

Gorée's Land

A lovely island. One of the magnificent Senegal's islands, Gorée is very meaningful. It has been the main west Africa's French counter, and the first "slaves' main market". It is 4 Km far from Dakar (Senegal's capital city). So we have to cross the ocean.

Up to now, this small island that has kept its colonial buildings remains really touristy.

You can find there the huge gun, the tiny room where slaves were packed, many museums, many resorts, lots of traditional stuffs such as jewelries, paintings, dishes, instruments... the sellers can come from Dakar, or may live in Gorée.

But I personally found out that people from Gorée are very different from people from Dakar. The people from Gorée have a sort of original way to do things, I mean the way they think, the way the live, what they think about tourists when they first meet them is closer to a kind of friendly curiosity linked to a peculiar feeling of being shattered, rather than a fake enthusiasm mixed with hypocrisy very common in Dakar. Moreover, this latter is the kind of feeling that have made Gorée a sort of tourist trap, where instead of being touched by the breathtaking landscape and the meaningful events happened there, you will rather be under the impression that the people there (the visitor's guides or the sellers) are thinking: "it doesn't matter what happened some years ago there, just listen to me, or buy my paintings, and by the way, give me all your money because you look to have a lot".
Good to specify: " to look like having loads of money" depends on your nationality and of course the darkness of your skin. No need to tell you that you are very likely to be charged more expensively if first you are not very dark :) and secondly if your nationality is geographically very far from Senegal. It doesn't seem like, but dear friends you have to believe in me, it's VE-RY VE-RY funny.
I've met there a painter; I have first been interested in him because he was the one who were very far from where tourists usually like to stay. When I got near him, I asked if I could take a photo of him. He said he'd be very pleased, and in addition it's his aim. I didn't understand, so I asked what his aim was, and he told me that in fact he'd be very happy if he could sell many of his paints, but actually, expressing his feeling, and showing how simple and differently and spiritually his life is, to someone who has spent money just to come and see his motherland was the main important thing for him. And he gave me a painting for free(the one he is holding on the picture). I asked him why, and he answered it was just because I'm beautiful (yes yes you may have not noticed, but actually I'm very attractive :) haha! Just kidding! )
I was simply happy.

I like Gorée. I like Gorée when nobody is there, no sellers, no two-faced people. I like Gorée when there are only their residents.

Firewood

2Mayega: I really like the way you did when you first started learning English, I mean..as you said, you didn't rush to an English class, and on top of that you were reading the same novel as in school. It is not wonderful that "call of English"? Just the same as me, but my TOEIC results were fairly encouraging...Thank you for your comment ^_^

2Emat: I'm very happy Emat, you don't even need to tell me whether you like learning English... I have noticed how active you're on this bbcblog; you would always leave a comment...Thanks and just keep in learning

2Natanael: Waouhhh!!! It looks like I have a lot to share with all of you on this blog... Anyway I'm willing to. Nice to meet you too.

2Beatriz: I like your comment. Yes I think I like it. And...I think it's the best comment. Hemmm...please do you mind keeping in sending comments? Thank you

2Nastya: Your comment Nastya just remind me and give me a confirmation that it's absolutely necessary that we love the language we learn, in order to be able to speak... Thank you.

2Franscisco De Paula: Seven years!! Learning by yourself!! On top of that just for fun!!! I'm afraid but you may be crazy about English. Just like me. Thank s for your comment. By the way, I like your name, it sounds like a..a queen! You see? I'm not only crazy about English

2Pary: Well Pary, I just like the way you like English, I like the way English is sweet for you, I like the way you take advantage of this language to make friends,I like you feel your homeland as a paradise, and I would like you not to stop to post some comments from time to time.

2Silverize: Hmm..i'm confused, are you still Nastya or someone else with the same name? anyway I don't look like, but I'm 22 and Thank you for helping me to realize that in 22 years of LIFE I've made only four real friends. No I'm not joking.

2Elisabeth: Thank you Lisa (can i?) to send me to the dictionary, yes it is a very warm welcome. I just hope I've perfectly understood what you said..hmm..well a paradise must be endless. So it may not be one if you feel it pleasant only for a short period. But are you sure that white coat-dressed hills are not just breathtaking in spite of the temperature? It's nice to have your comment; I've learnt some new expressions, Thanks. Oh I forgot! I like Bamenda because there are many waterfalls. I wish I could be a waterfall.

2Mike: Hi Mike! Thanks for your comment, don't worry, I'll be very and really wordy!

2Ashish: I'm happy because by the end of this month, you may not only think about football when you will be hearing about Cameroon. I like your optimism when you say you're getting better in English day after day...Thanks for your comment. By the way do you still believe in Argentina's team?

2Seka: Hello you! I have just one thing to say: TheBBC learning English website is there for you.

2Doming: you're totally right, this name comes from a St. well, I think keep using the native language is not that bad, but "wasting" this great opportunity to speak English is...well for me it would've been wonderful if both languages were well taught. And yes I really try to make the most of English when I'm in Cameroon; it's a bit a shame that I realized it later .Anyway, thanks for your comment.

Here, some believe in the power of fire; there are some villages here in Senegal where there is no light. So they enjoy the firewood, sitting in a semi-circle, telling the children some wonderful stories coming out from nowhere but, according to them, lived by the ancestors.

The modern kitchens are widely used, but somewhere behind the house, near the baobab (in Senegal) or near the large farm (in Cameroon), we can always find this cute small cottage where this firewood takes in its charge the endless cooking of this famous Senegalese dish "tiep bou diene", or this cameroon's dish "ndole".

And what about the environmental issues? Of course it's terrible to use a firewood, only the weather can certify it; climate change with dozen of consequences..greenhouse effect..Global warming...
Some of us say "that's terrible! Something must be done"! Most of us say " we couldn't care less". But don't worry dear friends, we really care about that climate change when we realize in Senegal that the livestocks look as if they are on a diet (e.g. Skinny goat) or in Cameroon, when the harvest suggest you to go on a diet.
Anyway, these are some pictures of what you can get from firewood. Just let me know which one you prefer, and tell me your feelings about the environment. All right guys, I really looking forward to your opinions.

Learning English...

A happy day, yes a very happy day. When I got up, doing my daily activities..Shouting silently against that sun who has risen too early (as usual ), jumping on the scales, complaining about this weight. Asking myself whether I will go to school this afternoon...

Anyway! I went after all. But I think I should've stood home! I met that man who asked me in English the way for the nearest hospital. My goodness! I understood but I couldn't answer. Oh happy day!

What a shame for me, who is supposed to be bilingual, as a Cameroonian!
Now, struggling to learn English...a long way to go...

I'm from Cameroon, that country divided in two parts: One where English is the main language spoken, the other one where French is mainly used.

So these holidays, I just needed to get away to Bamenda (an English speaking town in the North west Cameroon), and realized how hopeless I was in English, and how I liked that town! I daresay it is my " wonderland " here in Cameroon.

Hi! Wonderlaaaannnnd !!! Funny. How about you? Do you think you have a place in your country that could be your paradise?

Anyway, strange though it may appear, there is nothing so terrible as learning English, as far as I'm concerned (of course). Learning a vocabulary to forget five months later is not particularly encouraging, is it? But I just can't help learning English because I just love it!

My name is Dominique, I study in Senegal, and I really hope you will enjoy reading about me ( and what I think) all over this month. This is my first post, I didn't know what to say, so I just remembered how amazing it was to struggle in expressing oneself in a non-native language.
Anyway, I like it. And you ? Do you like learning English? I'm interested in your experience...
