Unsigned mania

So after finishing the onemusic show whose express purpose was to play a lot of unsigned music im actually playing more on my new sunday show! Loads of it in fact.

Check myspace.com/lyonsandtigers and www.myspace.com/plasticlittlerap for two of my fave new unsigned acts at the mo...

Anyway hope u enjoyed the new show and please do keep the unsigned music coming into Radio 1 towers.

Right i'm off to bed after drinking too much and DJing at the BT Digital Music Awards last night. Not only was I pipped to the post for my award of Best Electronic Act by a band called Lorraine, I mean i ask you! But then played for 3 hours at the after party to a crowd including Peter Gabriel, me Radio 1 pal Edith Bowman and Lil' Chris, the rock kid who's all over everything at the mo and was lovin' my nirvana/metric/clash mash up... Jumping up and down like a little bean. Shouldn't he have been in bed?

Tune in this sunday and email me robdabank@bbc.co.uk with any top tips.

hello gang, sorry if you think ive been ignoring you - not true! just been tied up in baby world and festivaland

anyway im down on the sunny old isle of wight setting up my bestival festival..blue skies so far and fingers crossed..if youre a fan of one music youd like the lin eup - 250 artists from gogol bordello to get cape wear cape fly, klaxons, love is all, the fall... and then more blue room type fodder from scissor sisters, pet shop boys, kid creole and john martyn...

a right old mish mash in a typically da bank style

im sure youll have heard the news that the one music club is shutting its doors in september...but the good news is im starting afresh on sunday night midnight til 2am every week,..gonna be a bit of a mix of one music and the blue room with some other weird and wonderful stuff thrown in...so do stay tuned!

til the next time my friends

yellow things

Hello boys and girls and anyone still undecided… I sit here on a sunny day in London with my little boy Arlo chewing on my thumb and making noises in his nappy. It's a 'appy scene to be sure.

Just been listening to Jarvis of the Cockers new song - Running The World, with the immortal chorus of: 'c**ts are still running the world'. Its grandiose, witty and brave - just what the bespectacled doctor ordered for a sick pop world … but possibly won't get much radio play!

Check it out at: http://www.myspace.com/jarvspace

Since we last spoke I've been doing a fair amount of festivals - both as punter and DJ. T In The Park was ace - I managed to drag about 5000 people in at 1145am for some techno action in the Slam tent. Only in Scotland could this happen - must be something in the water but it's so great to see everyone really letting go and having a whale of a time.

Went to Latitude this weekend in Suffok which is a more arty affair entirely - lots of poetry and spoken word … and the Welsh wizard Huw Stephens hosting a stage. Managed to see one band in an entire day - Howling Bells who were great but not as good as I'd hoped.

Check out One Music on Thursday to hear the incredible Vashti Bunyan and Ive got Hot Chip in session on the Blue Room Saturday and Sunday.

Adios amigos

Ibeeeffffaaaa

Hello gang! Hope you're all well and dandy!

I currently find myself sweating my pants off in Ibiza, the home of ancient old ladies standing around in olive groves watching their goats climb trees and on the other hand hordes of beefed up ravers storming the niteries of the white island.

If you've never been it's nowhere near as horrific as stories tell, in fact it's tricky to find any bad things about it unless you hang around outside brit abroad pubs at chucking out time wearing the wrong football top.

I'm over here for my first date of new residency at Flower Power, a hippy night started in 1965... yes 1965, nearly a whole decade before da bank was even an itch in papa da Bank's troosers. Anyway one guy, Piti, DJs all night playing the Beatles, Stones, psychedelia and weird stuff... and it's the busiest night on the island just about!

I feel very honoured to be asked to host the second room. The idea is I bring back some balearic flavour so I've invited DJs like Alfredo and Jon Sa Trincha to join me playing anything from Grace Jones to Grateful Dead, Prince to Arethra Franklin and lots of unearthed oddities too...

Comin' back to blighty for the show naturally and can't wait to see what's a waiting in the da bank post sack.

Keep those festival details coming in to onemusic and your unsigneds too!

adios amigos, Roberto del Banco

Arlo alarm clock

'Ahh the little cutie' say all the girls when they see da Bank junior (well what did they expect as the fruit of my loins!?).

Well come over at 6am every morning ladies when he's screaming the house down til I get up looking like wurzel gummidge and walk him round the house showing him the sights and sounds for the umpteenth time... Anyway he's started smiling gummily and I'm sure he said hello the other day, or it could have been pass the ketchup!

Went to see Jim Noir and Fields last night at London's tiny Spitz venue. Jim Noir and his band looked the part - like Clockwork Orange meets the Small Faces with bowler hats and enormous roman centurion sideburns. Sadly their tuning wasn't quite as natty, but I put it down to the sound system and nerves... and out of tuneness! and I still love em!

Fields are my new favourite guitar band - the second time I've seen them this year and they were on fire! A heady mix of My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Led Zep and... umm... pastoral folk, played on your usual geetars and then up pops an accordion! Yup it's a right old mash up but really works. Recently signed to Atlantic these guys and gals are gonna be mega, I think their MySpace has 4 tracks on there so check 'em!

Oh, and tune in thursday... or else.

Blog off!

Thanks to the good people of Newcastle who came to see us DJ on sunday... You never know what to expect from a da Bank set 'cos I dont normally remember what records I've packed! But seemed to do the trick!

Tonight it's all about festivals - we've got live(ish) music from ATP from The Black Keys, the nutters Lightning Bolt and Electrelane plus a Not So Secret Now Secret on underground festivals happening this year... So if you know of one or are running on email me at onemusic@bbc.co.uk and we'll include you in our mini guide!

This weekend on the Blue Room I'm doing a transcendental meditation soundtrack for anyone feeling a bit jaded as we reach the halfway point of the year... Don't listen to it while driving a combine harvester or using a drill - I wont be responsible for you dozing off on the job.

Listen in my good people and see you on the other side...

glasto

mornin campers - hope ur weekends were happy! started mine off by haring it down to brighton to interview michael eavis in front a live audience as part of the great escape festival

have only met michael once when i was paralytic in the lost vaguness field and i was haranguing him about how he was God.. so i was slightly more sober this time and surprisingly calm when it came to the interview..i hate public speaking despite being a 'broadcaster' in the loosest sense of the word...

we rambled on for three quarters of an hour and michael went off on many tangents as he'd warned he would

probably the most intriguing was when he told us he'd booked 2007's headliner (there is no glasto this year remember! it would be highly embrassing if you were stood in the stone circle watching the sunrise on your own in a months time!) ... he wouldnt tell us who it was and warned that we'd never guess as it was on of the most amazing acts of the last 25 years but so unlikely that we wouldnt guess

i ran through the usual suspects U2, the stones and pink floyd..and bunged in chas n dave for good measure but he was keeping mum ..later the wife josie blurted out that she thought it was michal jackson and that makes quite a lot of sense..but i didnt ask mr eavis..just in case we got it right...

ooh, what a mystery

the rest of the weekend has been spent huddling in a windswept marquee on top of a cliff on the isle of wight at a mates wedding... drunk... in charge of a small baby...with a hosepipe ban sweeping the nation..
wow
