Help playing audio/video The Black Country Challenge is the name of a new government programme of support for schools in the region. ![]() Sir Geoff Hampton, project Chief Adviser Schools Minister Jim Knight visited the New Walsall Art Gallery to launch the project, which will see around £28m invested in learning. At the launch a film made with Black Country children was shown, in which they spoke of their aspirations, and what they need to succeed. Pupils from the four schools in the film - Earls High, George Salter School, Leighswood Primary and Deansfield High - then put their questions to Jim Knight. ![]() Jim Knight gave a speech Working in partnership with Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton councils, the Black Country Challenge's target is to see a sharp drop in under performing schools. The project focuses on English and mathematics, more outstanding schools, and significant improvements in the achievements of children in challenging circumstances.
