What are capital letters?

There are 26 letters in the alphabet. Letters can be written in lower case or upper case. Upper‑case letters are also called capital letters.

Capital letters are used for the names of people, places, days of the week and months of the year.

They are also used when writing about ourselves using the word ‘I’.

Every sentence should start with a capital letter.

When to use capital letters

Sometimes the upper case version of letters are used. These are called capital letters.

Some letters look the same in upper case and lower case:

Oo, Ww, Vv

Some letters look different in their upper and lower case forms:

Aa, Bb, Gg
