Income and wealth inequality can be caused by differences in the growth of income of different social groups. Changes in employment and taxation and government policy can also affect levels of inequality.

There are many causes of health inequalities including poverty, lifestyle choices, gender and race.

Women and ethnic minority groups experience inequality through employment, pay, housing, social mobility and other factors.

There are different views on how to tackle inequality. Both the Scottish and UK governments have taken action to reduce inequality.
