WM FeaturesYou are in: Birmingham > BBC WM > WM Features > A Christmas day out with Les Ross A Christmas day out with Les RossJoin BBC WM presenters Les Ross and Ed Doolan on a special Christmas day out, on board the Les Ross locomotive and help raise funds for the BBC WM Kidney Kids appeal. ![]() The Les Ross locomotive On Saturday 20th December 2008, BBC WM presenter Les Ross is taking over 260 passengers on a very special Christmas train journey day out and all money raised will go to the BBC WM Kidney Kids Appeal. ![]() The special train will be hauled by electric locomotive 86259 "Les Ross" and will start from Birmingham New Street and journey to Manchester. A day out with Father ChristmasLes Ross will be joined on board by Ed Doolan and Father Christmas for a festive family fun day out. Visits to a German market and Christmas craft stalls will be amongst many attractions on the day. ![]() German market The 'Les Ross' locomotiveThe BBC WM presenter bought the 'Les Ross' engine at its scrap value when it was put into storage. Les and an expert team at Tyseley Locomotive Works in Birmingham restored the engine. In 2002, Virgin trains named the electric engine 'Les Ross'. ![]() The Les Ross locomotive BBC WM Kidney Kids AppealOn 14th July 2008 BBC WM embarked on a year long campaign called the 'Kidney Kids Appeal' to help make a big difference to the lives of children receiving kidney treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The appeal hopes to raise funds for a new kidney unit.
