Big Screen Birmingham

A new hi-tech big screen

Victoria Square will never be the same again! Well ok that might be a bit of an exaggeration but you will soon be able to see the Big Screen Birmingham there.

If you wander down to the Frankfurt Market in Victoria Square, and peep through the carousel and the stalls full of German fayre, you'll be able to see Big Screen Birmingham in its new location in the city centre.

The new screen

A new look

It doesn't look very pretty at the moment, with hoarding around the bottom and a temporary cladding for the plinth. But as more work is done on it over the next couple of months, you'll see surrounds for the screen being built.

In January the screens permanent cladding will be revealed - done in stone to blend in with the stonework on the walls behind and beside it and around the sphinx.

State of the art

And while work is being done on the outside, lots of work is being done to update the Big Screen Birmingham control room and play out system, with test transmissions starting to run on the screen some time during December.

This new screen is state of the art, the most sophisticated screen with the highest resolution of all the Big Screen network.

2008 events

Watch this space for news of our first big event later in December, our launch in January and also details of some of the events and programmes coming to the screen for the rest of 2008.
