A special opening ceremony was performed by HRH Princess Anne on Thursday 9th September, to mark the official opening of the BBC's new regional headquarters in The Mailbox.

The Princess Royal stopped to talk to BBC staff as she was taken on a tour around the new BBC premises including the new television and radio studios.

The Mailbox boasts the latest technology; the radio and TV studios are among the most up-to-date in the world.

Princess Anne also opened the BBC's former site at Pebble Mill in 1971.
