Get planting new varieties of sweet peas and cabbages for an easy-peasy garden that's fit for a king. Or go wild in the garden with summer shrubs. The real gardening season is fast drawing to a close but that still means there are a few jobs still to do in the garden. ![]() Pear tree orchard I always cut the lawn when the grass is dry as the lawn will not only look better but can cope with all the weeds that will appear next spring. If you are hoping to get a wild garden underway then take a trip to the garden centre and buy up some of the left over summer shrubs at a knock-down price. If the root system is poking through the bottom of the pot then you can be sure the shrub is a healthy one. Get them home and plant them straight away. ![]() Sweet Peas may seem like the sort of plant to forget about until the spring but you can sow the seed now if you have a sheltered spot in the garden or in an unheated greenhouse. The new variety I will be growing this spring are Sweet Pea Odorata Melody Rose which produces beautiful large ruffled shaped blooms with bold pink rose-pink upper petals and white lower petals. They create an unusual and very decorative colour combination. Either sow them now or wait until spring when you can plant them direct into the open soil or in pots for planting out later. ![]() Apples TOPICAL TIPS:
