More than £20.5 million has been raised so far for Sport Relief 2008 and events in Berkshire have certainly played their part.

A mammoth Sport Relief Mile event hosted by Caversham AFC attracted 300 runners on Sunday 16 March.

The stormy weather blew away the marquee the club had erected and also ripped down the start and finishing line.

But, as Caversham AFC marketing officer Martin Mackay said "the British spirit came to the fore" and runners bravely completed the cross-country course through Clayfield Copse in Emmer Green.

Martin, who ran three miles and raised £400, said that the runners will have raised an estimated total of £30,000 - a whoppingly great contribution to the overal Sport Relief sum.

Caversham AFC chair David Renshaw said he was surprised to discover that his club's event was the only Sport Relief Mile in Reading.

He said: "As a result we drew people from all over Reading to take part, which was great".

Elsewhere in Berkshire Sport Relief Miles took place in Henley-on-Thames, Windsor and Maidenhead.

Berkshire-based athletes such as Olympic sprinter Marlon Devonish pledged their support at the Thames Valley Athletics Club in Eton.

Sainsbury's in Winnersh held a string of events throughout March involving local sports heroes such as heavyweight boxer Michael Sprott.

Even Reading's Strictly Come Dancing star Ian Waite popped to the supermarket on Saturday 15 March to encourage customers to be more active.

Well done to everyone involved!
