This privacy notice tells you how we collect and use your personal data when you complete an expression of interest form for a ‘Get In’ Taster Day.. It will explain how we process your data in line with data protection law.
Why are we doing this and how can you participate?
The BBC Early Careers team will be running a series of work Taster Days at BBC locations across the whole of the UK. These ‘Get In’ Taster Days show applicants what opportunities are on offer at the BBC. If you’re interested in a career with us, we’ll show you the next steps needed to ‘get in’ to a job at the BBC.
Taster Days give you the chance to visit our local studios for the day. You’ll find out more about the apprenticeships available at the BBC and experience what it is like to work in the media industry.
The majority of these sessions are for students aged 16-18, but we will also have Taster Days for over 18s who have finished compulsory education, career changers and school groups.
To help us decide where to hold the new Taster Days, and to speed up the application process, you can register your interest to attend a Taster Day at the BBC location that is nearest to you or most easily reached. To do this, you will need to fill in an expression of interest form, with a few basic contact details. Once we have finalised the locations and dates, we will contact you and ask you to complete a separate application form. What personal data will BBC collect and how will we use it?
The BBC will collect and process your personal data for the purposes of providing updates and announcements about our ‘Get In’ Taster Days.
We will collect your personal data via an online platform used by the BBC.
Personal data
We will collect the following personal data about you via our online form:
- Your name
- Your age range (if applicable)
- Your email address
If you are a teacher expressing an interest in our ‘Get In’ Taster Sessions on behalf of your class, we will also ask you to confirm:
- The name and address of your school
- Contact number
Who looks after your data?
The BBC is the data controller of your personal data. A data controller is in charge of the personal data collected about you.

Lawful basis for processing your personal data
The BBC must follow data protection law when we collect and use your personal data. Data protection law says that we have to have a ‘lawful basis’ for using your personal data. The lawful basis the BBC uses to process your personal data is consent.
We will only contact you about Taster Days in your area, if you have given us your permission. You can withdraw your consent to receiving news about our ‘Get In’ Taster Days at any time by emailing bbcgetin@bbc.co.uk.
Will your personal data be shared?
If we have to share your information with other people, we will only share where is it necessary for our work, or when the law says that we have to. When your personal data is shared with someone else, they have to keep it secure and only use it in the way that the BBC tells them they can use it.
How long will we keep your personal data?
The BBC will retain your personal data in line with the BBC’s Corporate Retention Schedule.
Your personal data will be stored in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA).
What are your rights?
You have the right under data protection law to:
- Be told how we use your personal data
- Ask to see the personal data we hold
- Ask us to change personal data you think is wrong
- Ask us to remove personal data when it's not needed anymore
- Ask us to only use your personal data in certain ways
- Tell us you don't want your personal data to be processed
