Tourism guide beach error apology

The Active Wales guide said Langland Bay was in Pembrokeshire.

The tourism arm of the Welsh Assembly Government has apologised for a guide that placed three Gower beaches in Pembrokeshire.

The Active Wales brochure misplaced Langland, Rhossili and Llangennith.

Conservative AM Alun Cairns said while some may find it "amusing" it was a "serious issue" as visitors may be misdirected.

Visit Wales said it was an error not picked up by proof readers but that it would be amended for the next edition.

Mr Cairns, who represents south Wales west, said: "I simply couldn't believe it that Rhossili, Llangennith and Langland were quoted as parts of Pembrokeshire.

"These areas are amongst the most attractive in the UK and we in Swansea and Gower are very proud of them.

Huge impact

"Some may see it as amusing but in reality it is a very serious issue.

"There are hundreds of businesses in Gower that depend on tourists and to misdirect their vital income to Pembrokeshire could have a huge impact on their viability."

A spokesman for Visit Wales said: "This unfortunate editorial error, which was made at the brochure's printing stage and was not picked up by Visit Wales staff at the proof reading stage, has now been amended for the next re-print which is due at the end of October.

"We apologise to any reader of Active Wales who has been misled by this error."
