One car ended up on its roof |
A man has pleaded guilty to drink driving after causing an estimated 150,000 damage to 11 cars outside his home. Leslie Arliss, 39, admitted at Bradford Magistrates' court to driving his Range Rover under the influence of drink and driving without due care and attention.
The court heard that 11 vehicles were damaged in Broomfield Street, Bradford, on 3 December 2003, with one ending up on its roof.
Arliss, who lives in the street, was found to have 105 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was tested, magistrates were told.
The maximum permitted level is 35 micrograms.
The court heard that Arliss returned home from his local pub at 2345 GMT on 2 December and decided to move his Range Rover to a better parking space. Stephen Rushton, prosecuting, said: "He [Arliss] turned the engine on and reversed his vehicle into the car behind, which went on to push two further cars behind.
"He then drove the vehicle forward, hitting vehicles parked in front of his own vehicle.
"He pushed them a considerable distance down the road with some force."
Riaz Sheikh, defending, said the damage was caused after his client accidentally knocked the Range Rover into gear.
Arliss's foot then became stuck between the accelerator and the brake pedal, which caused a domino effect, he added.
Driving ban
The court was told Arliss had been a driver for 23 years with no previous convictions and was of previous good character.
The defence did not accept that the cost of the damage totalled 150,000, Mr Sheikh said.
The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports.
Arliss was granted unconditional bail and given an interim disqualification.
