A 13.5m-high sculpture to mark a gateway into the West Country has been unveiled in Somerset. Travelling Light, by 48-year-old artist Peter Freeman, stands at J21 of the M5.
It is built of mirror stainless steel with the potential to emit 16 million colours. Special colour arrangements for specific days are planned.
Inside the tower is an astronomical clock and a computer, allowing the sculpture to change colour on a daily basis and for special occasions.
An "explosion of light" is planned for New Year's Eve, and the tower will turn pink on 14 February.
Mr Freeman told the BBC: "I live in Cornwall and when I pass this point I always think I am home.
"It is a similar idea to the Angel of the North, but with a different approach."
