A man has been cautioned by police after being found with an imitation firearm at Heathrow airport.

The 27-year-old, who is understood to be of Middle Eastern origin, was arrested on Monday.

He was detained in the baggage check area before attempting to board a flight to Kuwait.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said the man was being held for possession of a firearm, believed to be a replica handgun.

She said: "He has been cautioned and released from police custody.

"That is the end of the matter."
