| Wednesday, 3 May, 2000, 18:46 GMT 19:46 UK Royal tribute to teachers ![]() Teachers were invited to Buckingham Palace The Queen and senior members of the Royal Family paid tribute to the nation's teachers at a Buckingham Palace reception.
Excellence and significant improvements in sport, music, drama and social service community activities were recognised, as well as in mainstream academic studies. The Education Secretary, David Blunkett, was also invited to the party, along with other senior education officials including the Chief Inspector of Schools in England, Chris Woodhead. Other Royal Family members present included the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of York, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent. |
