 Selby is due to close within a year |
Energy minister Brian Wilson has told mining unions there is little hope of saving the Selby pit complex. The colliery is likely to close within a year, with the loss of approximately 2,000 jobs.
Up to 300 miners could be transferred to Kellingley colliery in Knottingley.
Owners UK Coal are this week expected to reveal annual losses of up to �60m.
Recently the National Union of Mineworkers released a report urging a rethink over the closure but Mr Wilson said there is no longer a future for Selby.
He said: "On an initial reading (of the report) it seems unlikely to change the position that there is not an economic future for Selby."
